Classes at Urban Ashtanga are taught in the traditional method known as ‘Mysore Style’. Mysore style is an assisted, self-practice format. Practising at their own pace, students learn an Ashtanga yoga sequence pose by pose, with the support, guidance and hands-on assistance of the teacher. In this way the individual needs of the student are addressed as they develop their personal practice.
The Ashtanga Vinyasa practice develops a balance of strength and flexibility in the body, with a strong focus on cultivating core stability. Each pose in this practice is linked to the next via the unification of breath and movement. In this way the body is detoxified, vitality is restored and the mind is nurtured towards clarity and calm.
