“I love that this yoga is energetic yet the sequence of asanas and the mysore style of practice makes it very meditative at the same time. I also enjoy the fact that this is my own practice and I can do it any time and any place.”

“Having a regular yoga practice has helped me develop strength and flexibility in both my body and my mind. I started practicing Ashtanga Yoga to improve my flexibility but have stayed with the practice because of the benefits to my overall state of mind and wellbeing. The lessons I learn on the mat (patience, acceptance, hard work, focus) are applicable to all other areas of my life – I love that. I’m amazed and surprised that I have become so committed to my yoga practice. I have never thought of myself as someone who could commit to a regular practice, let alone get up before dawn to do it! There’s really something quite powerful (and magical) that happens when I get on my mat – no matter how I was feeling before I get on I always feel better when I finish my practice, and that will keep me coming back.”

“Last year I had no idea what Ashtanga Yoga was about, but with Victoria's guidance I have discovered one of the most dynamic ways to express life. Breathing in this practice has given me a whole new perspective on what I took for granted. Physically I feel more flexible and upright than I have in many years. The practice and its physical benefits has allowed me to do anything that confronts me. Victoria said early on that this will become more than "a stretching class. This I was not sure about, particularly having met several pretend yoga gurus. I now get it, calmness is enlightening.".

“Gym and bike-riding used to be my preferred forms of exercise. I knew little about yoga. Badgered by my brother; ‘You should do yoga’ ‘Do Astanga yoga, its best’ (The one he was doing!) I googled ‘Ashtanga yoga’ and ended up at one of Victoria’s training sessions. From the first, I was taken by the ambiance of the studio, the focus on breathing, the practice through which one developed individually and the gentle stillness I experienced in the aftermath. What I initially regarded as happenstance quickly morphed into serendipity. The main reasons for this morphing are twofold: 1. My luck in stumbling upon Mysore Style (self-practice) Ashtanga Yoga, rather than guided group classes. 2. Being 58, attending guided classes with the prospect of having to keep pace with the young and nubile, would have been daunting and possibly discouraging. Many teach; few are blessed to be true, inspiring teachers. Victoria’s attentiveness to individual needs, grace and good humour combine to engage and inspire.”

“Initially I took up yoga to help manage a bad back and to improve my flexibility, which it has done. Although I was unprepared of the physical commitment this practice demands, it was the mental demand that really caught me by surprise (a nice surprise). It is because of regular practice that I can now apply the same focus to other aspects of my life and sustain it for longer periods. On top of all that, at the end of every practice I’m left with a cleansed mind and a ‘light floaty’ feeling, a perfect way to start or finish off my day.”
